FAA Computer Outage Causes Delays in U.S. Flights

A computer outage at the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) caused flights to be delayed and grounded across the U.S. on Wednesday.

The FAA ordered all U.S. flights to delay departures until 9 a.m. Eastern.

According to flight tracking website FlightAware, there were over 1,200 delayed flights and over 100 cancellations.

Most delays were concentrated on the East Coast, but were beginning to spread west.

The FAA said it was working on restoring its Notice to Air Missions System.

United Airlines temporarily delayed all domestic flights and is waiting for updates from the FAA.

The FAA said that it would provide frequent updates as it made progress in restoring the system.
